Camp COOL (Children Overcoming Obstacles through Love) was founded in July 2013. Camp was founded to serve as a special needs summer camp focusing on children who have a primary diagnosis of cerebral palsy or spina bifida ages six to twenty-one. We strive to create an environment for campers to come without the fear of being excluded during activities or even rejected from the camp due to their individualized needs. We put our counselors as well as staff through a day and a half of training. We provide a registered nurse to be on site to take care of any medical needs, medications and any other issue that requires a trained professional. The nurse also provides individual training to each group of counselors based on their campers particular diagnosis. We also have one of the following OT/PT/OTA/PTA to do a training on how to lift, transfer and manipulate the campers. We make sure each parent gets to meet with the registered nurse and their child's counselors to go over schedules, medications, certain routines, and any special meal time procedures. Our staff is always available to help the counselors with any needs/questions they might have. We have a hard working group of people who all take pride in operating a camp in which there are no restrictions to have fun.
