The Consolidated Central Valley Table Grape Pest and Disease Control District (The District) was organized under the provisions of the Table Grape Pest and Disease District Law [Division 4, Part 1, Chapter 9, Article 8.7 (commencing with Section 69047.60) of the California Food and Agricultural Code] in 2005 by the table grape growers of Kern and Tulare counties. The objective of the Consolidated District is to monitor research and support the control of any invasive pest or disease, including but not limited to glassy-winged sharpshooter and Pierce's Disease, which endangers the commercial production and or viability of the table grape industry in Kern and Tulare Counties. Examples of other pests which have been or are currently being researched with support from the District include Vine Mealybug, Red blotch, spotted winged drosophila and Brown Marmorated Stink Bug. The District has responded in the past, to Mediterranean Fruit Fly finds in Tulare County and collaborated with Fresno County to address the European Grapevine moth finds in that area. The District is funded by an acreage assessment approved by the table grape growers through a special election. That assessment is collected by the two counties and distributed to the District. The District is governed by a board of nine directors who are either an owner of, or a designee of an owner of table grape acreage within the District. The Board of Directors meets on the first Thursday of February, March, April, July and October and the second Thursday of November at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Tulare County Agricultural Commissioner's Office, 4437 S. Laspina Street, Tulare, CA. There are three elected officers, chairman, vice-chairman and treasurer. The Board is regulated by and strictly adheres to the Brown Act. The meetings are posted and open to the public except in the case of legal issues, and Robert's Rules of Order are followed.
