Elder Heart Sandhills (EHS) is a chapter of the national charity, Elder Heart, Inc. (elderheart.org), which is aligned with Mission 22. Elder Heart is a not for profit 501(c)3 entity whose sole mission is to bring community and veterans together, leaning on the ancients model of healing. Our purpose is to create a bond between our Sandhills citizens — veterans, active duty, civilians, children and local government — by involving them in an interactive, creative process of building an art sculpture in our community, as a community. In this process, we will build friendships and understanding about the epidemic of suicide among veterans in our country.Our long term goal is to continue to raise awareness of this Ameican epidemic of veteran suicide and become a model for other communities coming together to support one another. The art project is a community-built sculpture that will be located in the center of downtown Southern Pines, in front of the Finance & Utilities building. It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a community to heal a soldier's heart. Elder Heart is just a facilitator of what we already are and want to be. ~ElderHeart.org
