The Friends of the Mobile Public Library is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We administer endowments and gifts and provide funds to help cover the rising costs of library materials and the increasing demand for services, programs and technology.For the benefit of the Mobile Public Library and the Community, The Friends have provided funding or support for the following:SUMMER READINGWe underwrite the cost of a storyteller or entertainer to perform as part of the Library's summer reading program for children. Also, many of our members volunteer to work with this program.REFERENCE DATABASESWe make it possible for The Mobile Public Library to provide a wide range of online reference databases. Whether you are seeking information from a Reference Librarian or doing research on your own, these databases are an invaluable tool for the modern public library and its users.MATERIALSSpecial purchases of materials including eBooks, PBS video series, Compact discs, Audio Books, Health Books, and Large Print BooksEVENTSProduce special events including the Annual Membership Meeting featuring a Southern Author, Student Seminars and the Annual Writing Contest and the Annual Spring Luncheon fundraiser.LIBRARY STAFF PROGRAMSProvide funds to support the Library's Employee of the Year program, as well as the employee length-or-service recognition awards.BOOKMOBILEMatched the grant funding needed to purchase the new bookmobile: The Sprinter Bookmobile.
