The Frontlines is perhaps the very first example of a documentary-styled procedural drama that presents the subject narrative directly from the perspective of the community. The narrative traces the work of three community leaders that have risen to their respective positions by working in Hartford's trenches despite building nationally renowned expertise in their respective fields. This is opposed to the typical law enforcement focused procedural drama that shows the viewer the world through the lens of police officers or officers of the court. And while the typical police-focused procedural drama docuseries is sensationalized and dramatized for entertainment value, The Front Lines will weave together the work-life set of three individuals and the attendant trials and tribulations to add the very same entertainment value organically. By weaving the three narratives together into one story arc, delivering one cohesive message, The Front Lines avoids becoming too didactic or overly academic; allowing viewers the opportunity to engage and enjoy the content at an accessible level while still being enriching and purposeful. Importantly, the narrative of The Frontlines is based on the lived experience of Black men. The story arc is written and crafted to reveal the genius, the struggle and the very real lives of Black men in an American city who are working against all odds to save lives and the communities that they love. Documentation of this brand of storyline is extremely rare, even in a time of heightened awareness on race and identity, narratives featuring the strength and intelligence of Black men in critical situations are far and few between. The Front Lines will not shy away from detailing the gritty nature of the subject matter that it covers; equally it will make a resoundingly clear point that the help that is needed in the community comes from within the community.
