Gleannaglas Lodge is a 150-year-old renovated house in the midlands of Ireland, surrounded by the unspoilt beauty of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Gleannaglas Lodge's location at the very centre of Ireland, makes it an ideal base for trips to many Irish tourist attractions including Dublin (100 kms), Cork (140 kms), Kilkenny (60 kms), Galway, Limerick (both 100 kms) and Killarney (200kms).Our high quality accommodation sleeps up to eight people in three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are upstairs (one with ensuite), each with a double and a single bed, and one bedroom downstairs with two single beds. The facilities include central heating, television, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Bed linen and towels are supplied and there is a payphone in the cottage. We have a big enclosed garden and there is lots of secure car parking on-site.The name of the house ‘Gleannaglas' is derived from the Irish (Gaelic) language, in which ‘gleanna' means ‘glens' and ‘glas' means ‘green'. Gleannaglas is the original name of the immediate area and our Lodge was the gate lodge to a nearby period house. The cottage is in a scenic rural location with great walking routes in the rural countryside. The Slieve Bloom Way is a marked walkway of almost 50 kms and it, along with many mountain and forestry roads, offer wonderful opportunities for country scenic walks. There are many quality golf courses nearby and they offer relaxed golf at reasonable rates. The quiet country roads are ideal for safe and interesting cycling. For game fishing, there is the river Nore and smaller rivers-all within a10 miles of Gleannaglas Lodge. Coarse fishing is also available in a number of rivers and lakes in the vicinity.Bustling country towns, steeped in tradition and character, such as Roscrea, Birr, Portlaoise are only a short drive from Gleannaglas Lodge. There are castles nearby in Birr, Ballaghmore and Kinnity, and period houses of architectural such as Emo Court and Roundwood House, just two miles from Gleannaglas Lodge. The latter has a restaurant of considerable renown.A wide range of music can be found locally, and the area is a centre for set-dancing.The area has a very vibrant Irish traditional culture which strongly influences a peaceful and friendly way of life.
