Intellicass Inc. was incorporated in Montréal, QC, Canada, in 2006. The company is commercializing a novel technology in the area of sheet metal stamping. The Intelligent Computer Aided Stamping System (ICASS) developed by Intellicass precisely controls the forces a blank-holder applies on the sheet of metal at multiple locations. The system then adjusts these forces during the stamping cycle in order to eliminate forming defects. The technology enables significant material savings in the manufacture of stamped metal parts by allowing the part to be made from smaller sheets, and also by reducing the scrap rate from defective parts. The technology is very relevant to the manufacture of automotive parts from lightweight high-strength alloys that are being increasingly used to meet stringent new fuel efficiency and safety standards. However, the technology has applications in other industries, for instance in the home appliance industry.
