Intention was born as an idea in 2016. We came across a tent producer in South Africa. We thought it would be nice to have a few bedouins, so we bought two bedouin tents and tried to put them up. We had much to learn back then.Six months later we went to South Africa to build a sculpture in the desert - Yggdrasil, a giant baobab tree. We acquired ten bedouin tents and built a small town, right in the middle of no man's land. Two bedouins became a workshop and two turned into a kitchen, lounge, living room and meeting place. The remaining six were our sleeping quarters and protected our 50 beds from wind, sun and rain.The desert is like a magnifying glass that magnifies weather. Without wind the temperature sometimes rose to 46 degrees. When the wind came you had to hold onto your hat, put on safety goggles and tie everything down. And then, when the rare storm came ... we packed the tools together, secured all bedouin tents and ran naked in to the rain.Out there, it was about survival. We were humbled by the will of the weather. It's remarkable how much wind the bedouin tents can handle, when pitched right with the sides stretched to the ground. We've learned much about pitching bedouin tents, how to handle them under tremendous stress and we are learning more and more.For two months we lived under bedouin tents. We have always liked them. But when we saw them in action, in South Africas desert Tankwa Karoo, we fell in love.
