In November 2021, the Government of The Gambia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) of the United States signed a $25 million Threshold Program Grant Agreement to support The Gambia power sector through technical assistance and change-driven investment support. The four-year program consists of two projects - the Power Sector Governance Project (PSGP) and the Power Sector Operations Project (PSOP), with the overall objectives to develop a more effective, accountable, and transparent power sector governance in The Gambia, and to improve NAWEC's operations for better electricity service delivery, as a key driver for socio-economic development. The Millennium Challenge Account-Gambia (MCA-Gambia) is the management unit established under the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, responsible for the implementation of the Program. MCA-Gambia exercises and performs the Gambia government's right and obligation to oversee, manage and implement the Threshold Program, including without limitation, managing the implementation of the two projects, allocating resources, and managing procurement activities. MCA-Gambia is administered by a Board of Directors comprising key energy sector stakeholders including private sector and civil society representatives.
