OmFi lets individuals and communities create their own secure, private networks for storing content as well as deploying their own networked applications. The device allows the end user to create their own cloud server by connecting to the user's existing devices and creating a P2P file mirroring system. Once the user establishes their own cloud, they can connect to other OmFi users via an encrypted internet gateway or through a mesh intranet, depending on proximity. Users choose what data and services they want to share with who in the network and can move away from relying on insecure cloud services like Google, ensuring privacy and making illegal surveillance difficult. With the option of adding a 900MHz radio in addition to the WiFi radio, wide area mesh networks can be created to share internet access and create secure community intranets that can survive disruptions of the power and communications grids.
