One Good Turn believes everyone has something to offer. That's why we promote dignified exchanges and offer people a "hand up" (rather than a "hand out"). Our programs help low income people with social determinants of health, providing access to healthy lunches, counseling, housing, and jobs--all in exchange for volunteer hours. HISTORYNearly 10 years ago, One Good Turn started with CAFE 180, a community cafe where everybody eats, regardless of ability to pay. People who can make a donation for their meal, which on averages is $10-12. Those who can't pay can volunteer for an hour in exchange for their meal. While the meal itself has so much value, what we've learned over the years is that CAFE 180 provides so much more: We give people from all backgrounds and circumstances a place to come together.Because long-term stability is a big part of improving the health of our communities, we expanded our offerings to include Counseling 180, Housing 180, and Jobs 180. People receive assistance in these areas in exchange for volunteer hours at the cafe.HOW YOU CAN HELPWe have so many opportunities for individuals, groups, and corporations to get involved! The easiest way (and our personal favorite), is to start by having lunch with us, M-Sa, at CAFE 180 (3315 S. Broadway, Englewood). From there you can learn more ways to get involved, including volunteering in our kitchen as an individual or group. Our space can also be rented for meetings and events, all for a donation to One Good Turn. We are also actively recruiting mentors for our JOBS 180 program, which provides paid work experience to young people with barriers to employment. Be sure to check out GoodTurn Cycles in Aspen Grove, our nonprofit e-bike shop where our students receive job training. We also have partnerships with realtors and other members of the housing community who are concerned about Denver's lack of affordable housing.Learn more at onegoodturn.com.
