Rooftop Roots is a nonprofit social enterprise that is working to grow a more just, equitable, and sustainable future by transforming the way we engage with the urban environment. We design, build, and maintain residential and commercial gardens to support healthy nutrition, jobs, and green spaces for underserved communities in the DC area.The proceeds from residential and commercial vegetable gardens and native landscapes help finance our nutrition and sustainability programs, as well as the operation of gardens for underserved communities. Our model is committed to the following principles:- Increasing community access to locally grown fruits and vegetables- Reimagining urban and suburban landscapes to support biodiversity, soil health, and water quality- Creating green collar job opportunities for un- and underemployed community members
