The South Shore Regional Enterprise Network was incorporated in August of 2014. The network represents a partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and nine municipal units; Municipality of the Districts of Chester, Lunenburg and Shelburne; the Towns of Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Lockeport and Shelburne; as well as the Region of Queens. The Liaison and Oversight Committee immediately launched a recruitment effort to appoint a Board of Directors that would represent the business community.The Board held their first meeting in March of 2015, hired a Chief Executive Officer and began operations in January 2016. The Province of Nova Scotia is a partner and provides 50% of the funding, with the nine municipal units providing the remaining 50%.Once operational, the SSREN began the process of advancing an economic development strategy for the region. The Strategy involved extensive business and stakeholder consultations and was approved by the Board of Directors in October 2016. It is presently being reviewed by municipal partners and will required approval by the Liaison and Oversight Committee.The SSREN MandateCoordinate economic/business development efforts for the region through a regional economic development strategyWork closely with the business community to provide one point of contact for program navigation, business climate/conditions information, labour market information, and opportunities.Implement a business engagement initiative that supports business attraction, retention and expansionDevelop a three-year strategic plan with regional tourism stakeholders to grow tourism revenue."The Regional Enterprise Network model provides a new and potentially powerful vehicle for coordinating the development of efforts of different jurisdictions and generation great cooperation and policy alignment across the province"​
