Tent was founded in 2016 by Joe Langenderfer (CEO) and Jake Schafer (CTO) at Boston College. Aiming to patch staffing shortages across the country, Tent was an online marketplace platform for short-term, temporary jobs. By allowing hourly workers to work wherever and whenever, Tent empowered SMBs with a confidence to ensure an always-full staff for any day or time.Tent raised a $120K seed funding round in 2017 from local Boston executives that shared the vision of a flexible future workplace. Additional companies such as Uber (Uber Works) and Instawork have engaged the same short-term staffing business model and platform that Joe conceived as a sophomore in college.
