In 1999, Mike formed West Coast Wildlands Inc. (WCW) modeled to address the growing need for habitat management planning and restoration in areas with critical habitat. Initially, the majority of work focused on the management of endangered butterfly habitat on San Bruno Mountain, specifically on the conservation of host and nectar plants for San Bruno elfin, Mission blue, and Callippe silverspot butterflies.Since then, WCW has broadened its scope of services and has worked with various clients throughout the Bay Area. Our staff has a diverse background in biology, botany, horticulture, and GIS mapping and analysis. Our areas of expertise range from weed management and habitat restoration to GIS and native/non-native plant mapping.WCW regularly works with California State Parks, the Invasive Spartina Project, San Bruno Mountain Watch, Go Native, Great Tree Tenders, Shelterbelt Builders, and the cities of Burlingame and Brisbane, within city, state, county, and federal open spaces, as well as with private landowners.
