A multi-sport relay race open to all persons 15 years or older, the Ski to Sea stretches over 90 miles from the Mt. Baker Ski Area to the Salish Sea. Seven unique "legs" make up the race, which include: cross-country skiing, downhill skiing or snowboarding, running, road biking, canoeing, cross country/mountain biking and sea kayaking. Each team consists of one person for each leg of the race, except for the canoe leg (2 paddlers per canoe).www.skitosea.comFirst held in 2012, the family friendly Muds to Suds mud race features 22 dirty obstacles (including 8 mud pits) that combine athletic stamina and the childhood fantasy of playing in the mud. In order to complete the approximately 2.5 mile course in Hovander Park in Ferndale, WA, racers must find the perfect match of endurance, humility to wallow in the mud, and a smile to show off at the finish line.www.mudstosuds.comEach summer, the Tour de Whatcom draws nearly 1,000 bike riders to Bellingham. This popular event begins in the picturesque Downtown Bellingham, and offers riders a choice of three distance routes for enjoying the surrounding Whatcom County in 22, 44 or 105 miles. Each year a benefactor is chosen, and all of the proceeds from Tour de Whatcom is donated to benefit a local charitywww.tourdewhatcom.com
