The Wheels to Heal project started in 2016 with the chance discovery of 150 used wheelchairs destined to be scrapped. Overwhelmed by the demand for them by those in need overseas, they were purchased and put back into use.With your help, since 2016 the Wheels to Heal project has recycled over 2000 wheelchairs for reuse overseas. A number of countries have benefited from this initiative. These include; Bangladesh, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria and Somalia. As a 100% donation and volunteer led project this is an amazing opportunity to help the most vulnerable and overlooked in society.Research has found that in developing countries only 10% of disabled people actually possess a wheelchair – meaning millions of disabled people in third-word countries face unnecessary barriers to fulfilling their life potential. Many simply can't afford a wheelchair which can cost between £300-£500.It costs as little as £15 to rescue and deliver a wheelchair so it can be put back into use in third-world countries where there is an urgent need for mobility. Wheelchairs for most disabled people in third-world countries are but a distant dream. We can change that with a simple donation – allowing them and their family the mobility and support needed and breaking down barriers that stop them fulfilling their potential.This project is designed with a 100% donation policy. All the work is carried out by volunteers.The cost for rescuing a wheelchair and safeguarding it for future use with delivery to the end recipient is between £15 to £25.
