Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust (PCT) is a statutory organisation created in April 2002. The PCT is responsible for: •Improving the health and well-being of the community •Commissioning a comprehensive and equitable range of high quality responsive and efficient services •Providing high quality services •Integrating health and social careThe PCT provides community healthcare such as school nursing, district nursing, health visiting, learning disability services, mental health, contraception and sexual health, hearing services, chiropody, rehabilitation, dental care, addiction services, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Primary Care is the care provided by people you normally see when you first have a health problem. It might be a visit to a doctor or dentist, an optician for an eye test, or just a trip to a pharmacist to buy cough mixture. Providing good quality services that are equitable, speedy, convenient and treat people with dignity."Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust's mission is to bring about improved health for the people it serves – the local community. To achieve this, the PCT has to encourage and help people to look after themselves and to change the way they live so that they become healthier and increase their likelihood of living longer. The PCT will support people to make lifestyle changes – including giving up smoking, eating a healthier diet, taking more exercise and cutting down on alcohol consumption. Making such changes, however small, can have a major impact on people's well-being, health and life expectancy.
