Workplace Incivility Sucks! However, you have the power to do something about it! Understanding what causes the deviant workplace behaviors, and then committing to counteract the behavior on an individual and organizational level is within your grasp. Workplace Civility Matters© begins by presenting the idea that our work life offers independent value for workers, beyond the basics of shelter, sustenance, and survival. We recognize that each worker aspires to perform his work in harmony with his surroundings, and with his fellow workers. However, in recent years, we have come to understand that, regardless of trade or profession, it is not a common truth that today's workplace offers the same degree of harmony to each and every worker. What we do know is that uncivil behaviors found within the greater society have taken hold within the contemporary workplace.\\Research reflects that 96% of all employees, including our colleagues and ourselves, have experienced incivility firsthand. Some incivility instigators are genuinely unaware that they have behaved uncivilly, while others are known for their recurring acts of incivility; where they either act with reckless disregard or with malicious intent to cause offense to others in the workplace. Beyond the disregard for our value as a human being, workplace incivility interferes with our work and the pursuit of our professional aspirations.
