This organization started with a tiny seedling of an idea. We had a desire to give back, and do something big for the communities in which we live and work. And that was it. We didn't know what it would be or how it would work. We just knew we wanted to help.When Ashley Watterson got her yoga certification in 2015 we approached Brewery Becker about starting a class to raise money for a local scholarship. The Brewery thought it was worth a try. Our first class had 6 people in it and was mostly just friends supporting Ashley's new yoga venture. But as the class grew in size and popularity, the scholarship fund started to grow. We rallied (see: nicely harassed) some community members to be on our scholarship selection committee, and the first year we awarded $4500 in scholarships. We continue to run Bend & Brew, hold some other fundraisers throughout the year, and have been blessed with a few exceptional donors who love what we are doing.In 2017 we awarded $10,000 in scholarships. That was the catalyst to creating the Yoga Strong Foundation and to starting jumping through the hoops to get our 501(C)(3). As the story goes, the rest is history.
