In the wake of New York's King Shirt movement, ego initiated his artistic journey by crafting hip-hop-inspired designs on t-shirts for friends in his Ahuntsic neighborhood. Obed José, better known by his modest pseudonym, ego (2004), wholeheartedly embraced his artistic passion from a young age, thereby laying the foundation for his talent. Over the years, ego continued to hone his craft through various forms of training. He is a versatile artist who embraces eclecticism, material fusion, and emotional depth to create works that transcend the boundaries of conventional art. Each of his creations is a story of the soul, a journey through the emotions and influences that have shaped his unique artistic vision. ego's art draws inspiration from influential artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, a master of raw and expressive art. He also finds inspiration in the work of Peter Chung, a virtuoso of animation with distinct visual universes.
