Leadership Shelby seeks individuals 21 years of age or older from all areas of the county who have demonstrated leadership qualities, have deep commitment to the community, and are likely to assume greater responsibility in the future. A class of up to 20 is selected annually from a cross section of business, industry, agriculture, education, religion, government, home economics, and communitybased institutions. Successful candidates must have full support of the organization or businesses they represent because attendance is required at all sessions. participants may be excused from two sessions; more than that will cause the class member not to graduate. Because diversity is crucial and the class size is limited, qualified candidates may not be selected the first year they apply; however, they are encouraged to reapply in subsequent years.
