The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. With nearly 19,000 students, it is the second-largest four-year public university in Louisiana. UL Lafayette has been designated an R1 university, indicating "very high research activity," by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning, placing it among the nation's top tier of public and private research institutions. UL Lafayette is among the top 10 universities in the U.S. for its percentage of research and development expenditures funded by business, according to the National Science Foundation.
