BIG DEAL was startup with a vision to bring discount coupons to the public at the time and place where they were needed most: The exit of a parking lot, the depature hall of a train or subway station, etc. At a time when smart phones were not yet as prevalent and Groupon was lift-off, BIG DEAL developed a Digital Kiosk to be put in public spaces, and connected over the internet to control the adspace; The kiosk included a touchscreen, a coupon printer, and a barcode scanner to interact with parking/train tickets.A beta version of the Digital Kiosk was developed in China, and a pilot was placed in Q-Park's Eindhoven (NL) parking lot; The founders took part in TV Show Dragon's Den and raised 50K EUR in seed capital. Ultimately, the plan was abandoned due to the fact that the projects ROI did not outweigh the cost of capital. In those days, the VC industry in Europe wasn't well developed, and the cost of capital were probably much higher than they were anno 2020.
