IAt the end of summer in 2012, LCol Terry Kopan a previous Commanding Officer of the Vernon Army Cadet Training Centre approached Francois Arseneault, the Army Cadet League historian, and asked him if he would start to put all of his knowledge of the Cadet Camp into a museum. So in 2013 Francois Arseneault began the task of documenting and acquiring artifacts for display at the Vernon Military Camp in Vernon BC. The Vernon Cadet Camp Museum was created in conjunction with the Vernon Military Camp, Vernon Cadet Training Centre, and the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives to assist in the preservation, presentation, and education of the Canadian Cadet Origination's history. The building B-39, a 900 square foot building that once was the camps MP shack is located to the south side of Patricia Way when entering the camp via the tunnel under the highway from RV Papa, now houses the museum. In 2015 a committee was formed comprised of ex-cadets and CIC/COATS members from all three elements of the organization to assist in the development of this museum. The committee's role is to assist in the fundraising, rotation of displays, public education, documentation, and preservation of the Canadian Cadet Organization's history as well as the history of the Vernon Military Camp. In 2018 the committee formed a non-profit society called the Vernon Military History Society and now runs the museum. While B-39 is the property of the VMC all items and displays within the building are the property of private collectors, the Grater Vernon Museum and Archives, or the Vernon Military History Society. One hundred percent of all funding is through donations and our new kit shop in the museum and online.The Vernon Cadet Camp Museum would not be possible without the assistance of the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives and our donors.
